| I wouldnt recommend dismantling a laptop, they're integrated as one unit usually.
The only reason i'd see to even attempt that is if there is something stuck and you really, REALLY don't want to send it back.

i detest laptops... im sick of this one..
id rather spend the same amount of money of a top notch desktop than a mediocre laptop
plus.. i just got back from pcworld today... 22inch monitors arent as big as i thought... heck.. the 20 inch ones were very small
the 24 inch imac looked perfect...
i wonder if i can get a good 24 inch one..
and one that can rotate, in a vertial fashion.. since angles are imporant, and when i sit in bed to watch some videos i tend to tilt my laptop screen forwards (ie. as if im closing it) .. at that angle
do you know if thats possible with desktop screens? or are they fixed and can only rotate horizontally

| Sony Shrinking Blu-Ray Player - Possible PS3 Cost Reduction?
A smaller, and less expensive Blu-ray player has been developed by Sony and Nichia and are expecting the new laser unit, which is 3mm thick to come equipped in Sony’s laptops sometime this year. While this is good news for those looking for a new laptop at a lower cost due to the smaller Blu-ray player, gamers who have yet to purchase a PS3 may be able to get in on this as well.
Since the new Blu-ray unit is able to handle disks with organic dye in the recording layers which in turn can be churned out from existing DVD production lines, this will save the company loads of money, which hopefully will be passed on to the consumer as well. This smaller, less costly Blu-ray laser unit might be one of the contributing factors to the phasing out of the 80GB PS3 model (besides low sales), and although Sony has yet to comment on any further price cuts - it is indeed plausible to assume it will happen.
It is not known yet whether Sony will be replacing the 80GB PS3 with an entirely new SKU or just continue to push the 40 GB, we will keep you posted as this story develops. Hopefully, Sony will be making an official statement soon.

| Well they did it to the PlayStation 2, they did it to the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and now rumours are circulating about yet another tweak to the PlayStation 3 hardware design.
It is tenuous to say at best, but gadgets magazine T3 is running with a story derived from whispers and gossip from last months CES show in Las Vegas.
Seems a well-informed insider has the scoop on a new PS3 model.
With a no comment from Sony on the speculation, you can immediately file this under rumour. T3 speculate that the new slimmer PS3 will also sport the [also rumoured] 160GB or 120GB HDD capacity.
With PlayTV on the horizon and the probable discontinuation of the 80GB PS3, Sony needs to get a large capacity model onto the market for those technophiles wanting to make full use of the console as it was originally envisioned, as a living room media hub.
All we can do for now is wait, and listen for more. Let's hope that any new announcement is not simply a colour selection option.

| Slim PS3 This Autumn? [Ure "Vader" Paul] 07:20 am EST @ February 02nd, 2008 T3 posted a rumor that Sony is going to produce a slimmer PS3 heading, which will, supposedly, be on the shelves this autumn. Now, Sony did make a few similar moves recently - for one thing, they shrank their read/write Blu-ray laser so it could fit in laptops. However, whether Sony's next step is to create a slimmer PS3 remains to be seen. Right now, their primary concern is to reduce the consoles price and bring more decent PS3-exclusives onto the market ASAP. Oh and the cool-looking pic above is a fake. | |

| Cell Hits 45nm, PS3 Price Drop Likely to Follow
Septimus writes "At this weeks ISSCC, IBM announced that the Cell CPU used in the PlayStation 3 will soon make the transition to IBM's next-gen 45nm high-k process. 'The 45nm Cell will use about 40 percent less power than its 65nm predecessor, and its die area will be reduced by 34 percent. The greatly reduced power budget will cut down on the amount of active cooling required by the console, which in turn will make it cheaper to produce and more reliable (this means fewer warrantied returns). Also affecting Sony's per-unit cost is the reduction in overall die size. A smaller die means a smaller, cheaper package; it also means that yields will be better and that each chip will cost less overall.'"

| The PS3 Processor Has Been Successfully Shrunk IBM has successfully miniaturized the Cell processor that you know from Sony's PlayStation 3. Formerly built upon the 65nm scale, the new version will be based on the 45nm high-k process. What's this mean? Money, power and heat savings for Sony. And maybe a smaller or cheaper PS3 for you. Along with the higher processor yields, what's most attractive is the power/heat savings. These 45nm Cells use 40 percent less power than the current, 65nm Cell. Sure that's a power savings for customers, but it's also a major heat savings for designers. The PS3 may not have the red ring of death problem like we've seen in the Xbox 360, but a cooler, smaller Cell could fit in a cooler, smaller PS3 (requiring less fans, etc.). And while Sony has already managed to nearly break even on their console production cost vs. retail prices, the impending redesign could help Sony cut a legit profit from hardware (or allow Sony to cut prices again, instead). We'll keep an eye out for the new chips, but unless they come bundled in a smaller or cheaper PS3, none of this will really matter to you anyway. Note: that photo is of the old, fat, ugly, 90nm Cell. | |

| Twisted Metal Coming to PS3 Confirmed View Large Image A few weeks prior to the launch of the PS2's Twisted Metal: Head-On remake, David Jaffe stated that deep within the game lies an answer concerning the future of the Twisted Metal franchise. Initial speculation made us think Jaffe was being a bit sarcastic, and perhaps it'll be revealed on the back of the instruction booklet. Well, it wasn't. Instead, the much anticipated confirmation lies within the "Dark Past" video in the game. During the video, numbers are displayed on the screen. When you jot down all of the numbers and then substitute them for their corresponding letter (1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, etc.) you get the following message: "TWISTED METAL IS COMING ON PSTHREE" It couldn't be any clearer than that, folks. It's coming. | |

| Sony launches Satin Silver PS3 in Japan Updated: Wednesday February 06 2008 Sony has announced the launch of a "Satin Silver" model of the PS3 in Japan. The Satin Silver PlayStation 3 will go on sale on March 6th for 39,800 yen, which is around £190. The 40GB model offers no extra functionality or features, it's just a cosmetic enhancement. Sony is also to offer a DualShock 3 controller in a matching Satin Silver finish, but is not bundling it with the console. This follows the release of the Ceramic White PS3 in Japan last year, that has recently been confirmed for launch in the States. No other colours other than the standard black have been announced for launch in the UK. | |
