Mixed news for Roma in contract talks

A.S. Roma News Spacer

Roma's new contract talks with Amantino Mancini are set to drag on.

Mancini's current deal doesn't expire until 2009, but he can buy
himself out of the agreement next June thanks to FIFA's new transfer
laws. Roma had hoped to discuss terms this week, but his agent, Gilmar
Veloz, has his hands full over Alexandre Pato's arrival at AC Milan.
Meanwhile, talks with Matteo Ferrari are no closer to an agreement. The defender comes off contract at Roma next summer.
Max Tonetto is in the same situation, though he
is closer to settling on a new deal. The wing-back is happy with his
£400,000 salary, but wants a two-year agreement, while Roma have so far
offered 12 months.

Sensi Warns Hicks: Don’t Touch Our Club

The daughter of Roma President Franco Sensi has warned any interested
parties, including Liverpool owner Tom Hicks that they will face
‘trouble’ if they try to take over the club.

There had been strong reports in the English and Italian press
earlier in the week that Dallas businessman Hicks, who is the co-owner
of Liverpool and has an estimated wealth over $1 billion, was preparing
a take-over bid for Roma.
Franco Sensi is now 81-years-old and there have been suggestions
that due to his advancing years he may be tempted into selling.
However Rosella Sensi, who is also the administrative delegate of
the Giallorossi, has said in no uncertain terms that the club will stay
in the family when her father decides to pass on his powers.

“Roma is ours, nobody can touch it,” said Sensi.
“The club will remain with the Sensi family. There will be trouble
for anyone who tries to touch it. My father is still alive and
continues to play an active role within the club.”

Bega: Roma Play The Best Football In Italy
The Rossoblu have an excellent home record against Roma and in 40
past meeting between the sides as the Luigi Ferraris, they have won 20,
drawn 15, and lost just five times.
Nevertheless with Luciano Spalletti’s men in their best shape for a
number of years, Bega knows that Genoa are in for a difficult match.
“We will take on a team that is imposing even without Francesco Totti,” said the 33-year-old.
“Luciano Spalletti’s side play the best football in Italy, possibly
even in Europe. We will try to do well and play our style. I think a
great game will come out of that battle.”
Bega’s Genoa team-mate Fabiano agrees that Roma are a great side, but is confident they can be beaten.
“The quality at Roma is clear for all to see,” said the Brazilian.
“Yet we have everything needed and the belief that we can beat them.”
