| Barcelona more or less announced a fire sale today, Ronnie and Eto'o are available, plus Deco Will they kepp Henry? I'd be surprised if they held on him, but on the other hand if all the other guys leave, they mght want to keep at least one veteran up front. Dunno. | |

| Have you seen the price tag put on both players? c'mon its either a club has too much money or stupidity (specially Etoo). Ronnie is off to Milan and even that, it wont be cheap.
Its like saying Liverpool will sell Gerrard for 100 million quid...

| Dossena To Sign For Liverpool – Marino
Udinese coach Pasquale Marino has admitted that Andrea Dossena is on the verge of completing his move to Liverpool.
Dossena has had an excellent season for the Zebrette, playing 34 games, scoring two goals, and helping the club qualify for the UEFA Cup.
The left back has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool for a while now, and earlier this week it was reported in the Italian press that a transfer was on the horizon.
Bianconeri boss Marino has now confirmed that these stories are true.
“I think that a deal with Liverpool for Dossena is on the way,” told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“Everything is going smoothly. The requirements are in place and the player has given his consent because he wants to test himself at an important club after the season he has had.
“Our director general was in England partly because of that just two days ago.”
Dossena, who has won one cap for Italy, was also said to be attracting the interest of Juventus, however the Old Lady were apparently unwilling to match Udinese's asking price.

| Benitez normally has a kitty of 25 million quid, but just buys cheap spare parts for no apparent reason (Torres isnt but I cant recall of a great signing other than him in the last 3 yrs). | |

| well.. we didnt have "new owners" in the last 3 years...
we done have the money to compete with manU and chelsea... and it shows in the league.
same goes to arsenal... good team and good manager.. but very weak bench.

| I'm not going to disagree with you, because I know Utd and Chelsea have a bigger kitty. Its just some of the people Benitez has brought in have been hog wash.
Out:
Craig Bellamy (West Ham United, Ł7.5m), Luis Garcia (Atletico Madrid, Ł2.7m), Momo Sissoko (Juventus, Ł5), Djibril Cisse (Marseille, Undisc.), Scott Carson (Aston Villa, Loan),
In:
Ryan Babel (Ajax Amsterdam, Ł11.52m), Alex Cooper (Ross County, Ł100k), Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid, Ł26m), Yossi Benayoun (West Ham United, Ł5.5), Martin Skrtel (Zenit St Petersburg, Undisc.), Andriy Voronin (Bayer Leverkusen, Bosman),
Total fees paid: ~ 43.02 Total fees recieved:~15.02 Difference: Ł28 million
Other than Torres, did Liverpool improve? If they did, it was ever so slightly.
Now look at Utd:
In:
Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munchen, Ł17m), Nani (Sporting, Undisc.), Anderson Oliveira (FC Porto, Undisc.), Carlos Tevez (West Ham United, ??).
Nani and Anderson came in from a combined fee of 16million quid. Tevez's transfer is about 23 million quid.
Out:
Gabriel Heinze (Real Madrid, Ł8.15m), Giuseppe Rossi (Villarreal, Ł6.74m), Alan Smith (Newcastle United, Ł6m), Kieran Richardson (Sunderland, Ł2m.).
Total fees paid:~56 m Total fees recieved:22.89m Difference: Ł33.11 m
So Utd spent around 5 million more and won the CL and Premiership. Where Liverpool finished 4th and in the Semi's. What does that tell you about Benitez's buys?

| its not as simple as comparing the two clubs transfers over the past season..
manu already had their rooneys and rois and ronaldos...
whereas the only player we had that could compare to those players is gerrard...
now we have 2 .. torres
and i wont put agger and skertl on the same pedestal as rio and vidic... theyve not proven their salt yet.
i cant really complain about babel, theres obviously something in that player, only question is, how do we get it out....
if rafa succeeds.. than that makes it 3 good players in our squad..
and the catchup game continues..
i just hope that within that time, manU and chelsea dont buy another dozen star players and fuckin take the league to another level.. i dont want this to turn into another la liga (real/barca vs. the others)

| I think the league has already elevated.
To be honest, I think Utd's bench is nearly as good as Liverpools starters.
Brown and Finnan= Brown Evans and Agger= Agger ( I dont know if Agger plays from the bench or not, either way) Alonso and Hargreaves= Hargreaves Fletcher and Pennant= Fletcher
Obviously I took players who are more or less comparable.
Utd have 5 superstars: Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Scholes, Rio. Chelsea have 5: Drogba, Terry, Lampard, Cech, Essien Liverpool have 2: Torres and Gerrard Arsenal have 2: Cesc and Hleb ( I think he's magic).
Future stars (potiential)
Utd: Anderson, Nani, Ramsey(if bought) and Welbeck Chelsea: Mikel, ??? Liverpool: Lucas, Leto ,Babel Arsenal: Walcott, Adebayor, Vela.
Personally I think Liverpool are kidding themselves if they think they can match Utd or Chelsea's transfers, or Arsenals ability to pick up youngsters (Utd do a good job of that too). What Liverpool need to do, is stop worrying about Europe, and maybe consider rebuilding around Torres and Gerrard. They have key players like Babel, Lucas, Leto and Babel. What they need to do is build in young talent, and find some at a cheaper price and rebuild.

| correction:
Arsenal: hleb left. and adebayor is already a star
Liverpool: Leto? ur kidding me.. you must mean Insua.
Lucas... i have mixed feelings about him
Chelsea: they dont need potential stars.. they BUY the ready package ;p
anyway... lets see what happens with the transfers

| Correction: Hleb played this season for Arsenal and was a superstar. Adebayor is a star but not a SUPERSTAR.
Leto has potiential from what I've seen. Maybe its because I watched him in Lanus . Did he even play for Liverpool this season?
Anyway, Mikel has good potiential (figures they stole him from Utd, typical Chelsea).

| I think under MO's leadership it would be unfair to call Villa a mid-table club. I can see him doing with Villa what O'Leary did with Leeds, i.e. 3rd place finishes, semi-finals of Champs League etc. There is a hell of a lot of potential in that young, English squad. | |

we'll see how good they are this season... baring in mind tottenham and newcastle are on the up. and portsmouth can pull a lot of surprises.
i think, but hope not, that either liverpool or arsenal might be knock out of the 4th position this season.
