| Chelsea's Belletti: No-one dares be late for training under Mourinho tribalfooball.com - September 05, 2007 New Chelsea signing Juliano Belletti has revealed how manager Jose Mourinho is a strict timekeeper. Back in Barcelona on Monday to see his old teammates, the Brazilian revealed: "It isn't like it is here. "At Chelsea, anyone who arrives late for training, doesn't train. Mourinho sends them home and the following day he lets it be published in the press that the player did not train because he was late." | |

| Could Chelsea Have Made An Error With Ballack?
The mystery over Michael Ballack’s exclusion from Chelsea’s Champions League squad deepens today, with reports suggesting an administration error led to his absence. The Germany captain has been out since April after having surgery on a persistent ankle injury and was not expected to be back in action until at least October. Last week Chelsea revealed that Ballack would not take part in the group stages of the Champions League as the club could not guarantee that he would be fit to do so. But a few days later Germany coach Joachim Löw stated that he believed his captain would be ready for the Euro2008 qualifier against Ireland on October 13. With club and country contradicting one another, a plausible explanation has emerged, and it doesn’t make Chelsea look too good. According to The Times, an administration error by Chelsea has meant that the club were too slow to react to new UEFA rule which focuses on player registration, meaning Ballack was left out of the side. Under the new laws a club must include at least six players that are ‘locally trained’ which includes three ‘association-trained players’ and three ‘club-trained players.’ Chelsea haven’t struggled to find ‘association-trained players’ those being the likes of Joe Cole and Frank Lampard who are affiliated to the domestic national association. The problem arises when they try to field ‘club-trained players’ who have to have been with the club for three years between the ages of 15 and 21, only John Terry fitting that bill. The rules have changes from last year where two of each would be fine. It’s three now and it will be four next year. Reports suggest that Chelsea had missed this change and therefore lose two squad places for the competition and were, as a consequence only allowed to pick 23 in total. The Times state: “The club deny this and insist Ballack was left out because they could not guarantee he would be fit for the majority of their group B matches.
“Ballack had expected to be included and has taken his omission badly, though he has opted not to speak out.”
According to speculation manager Jose Mourinho and Ballack have not enjoyed the best relationship since April, when the midfielder had the operation without clearing it with the club.

| Ten Cate Leaves Door Open For Ronnie While he remained adamant that media reports suggesting that the Barcelona number ten was all set to complete a sensational switch to Chelsea was complete fabrication, the fact that he did not take the opportunity could be construed as significant.
“I’m very angry about the lies that were published in Barcelona that I spoke to Ronaldinho to bring him to Chelsea,” said the respected football brain, who served under Frank Rijkaard for three years, before agreeing to become assistant coach at Stamford Bridge.
“Stories like these create problems for me here at Chelsea because nobody from the club has asked me about Ronnie.
“The only thing that has been said between colleagues is ‘what a great player’ and ‘how can he do such spectacular things?’”
When asked to comment about his personal relationship with Ronaldinho, Ten Cate said: “We had a special relationship and we worked together very well.
“But the truth is I’ve not spoken to him for a year. He wished me luck at Chelsea through my daughter, who lives in Barcelona, but I have been very focused in my job at Ajax and now at Chelsea.
“When Ronnie had a bad game or saw that he’d lost a bit of rhythm, I told him to train in the evenings and he was always there on time.
“There were days he was asking me himself to do that. “We trained hard, very hard and he broke a lot of sweat.
“But the most important thing was that he was trying to be physically fit to play in his own spectacular way.
“We worked and we spoke a lot about our mothers who are very similar, they are both fighters.
“He had me as a friend but I was very hard on him when it was necessary.
“I couldn’t allow that the best player in the world wasn’t working like the best in the world should. He has a gift and he can’t compromise it.
“He’s so great, so good he’s still the No 1, he does incredible things for the team.”
Finally, and perhaps most significantly, the Dutch tactician favoured a rather ambiguous response when questioned about whether Chelsea are actively attempting to lure Ronaldinho to London.
“I don’t know, I’ve no idea, nobody has told me anything,” he said.
“We’re working with the group to bring success. This is my job and I have enough on my plate.
“Here nobody thinks Ronnie is finished, you can’t imagine how well people speak of him.
“Here people understand that a player can have a bad day or the team can have a bad day.
“It seems that everybody else has forgotten what this guy has achieved.”

| Ten Cate admits effing rage with Chelsea's Terry tribalfootball.com - February 26, 2008
Chelsea assistant Henk ten Cate admits he had a furious training ground bust-up with skipper John Terry last week.
Ten Cate said: "We are both kind of emotional - but we respect each other fully.
"We just had a discussion about the intensity of the training session. That's a normal part of the game. There have been a few F-words, no doubt. But that's common in England."
The 53-year-old coach also admitted there was tension before the Carling Cup final.
Quoted on the Dutch newspaper AD website, Ten Cate said: "There was a special tension on Saturday.
"We have 27 players and three keepers but only a few of them could play.
"John wanted to have even more intensity in training but I didn't agree as we were just one day before the match. That was all. Me and John get on well. John won't disagree." | |

| Liverpool Football Club sends its condolences to Frank Lampard after the death of his mother Pat.
The Chelsea star missed Premier League games against Wigan and Everton to be at his mother's bedside. But, when her condition improved, he returned for Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final first leg 1-1 draw at Anfield.
He returned to be at her bedside after the match but her health suddenly worsened and she passed away after a battle with pneumonia.
