| Was just reading...funnily enough, and in total contrast with the Betamax vs. VHS war, Blu-Ray is actually MORE expensive than HDDVD yet is still winning.
Tbh, i think Blu-Ray's marketing campaign was just a hell of a lot better.

| Love it or hate it you can't deny that the Football Manager series is an institution, with numerous "fastest selling PC game ever" type awards. I haven't properly played the game for a few years now, losing interest when it seemed to get almost too in-depth for its own good. Having said that I did manage to keep Southampton up in 2005, which is better than the potential new Newcastle boss managed to do in real life. Ahem. Anyway today's announcement that Football Manager 2008 will launch on Xbox 360 this March (28th) has got me interested again. Previous 360 versions were fine, but I could never find a reason to play it on console rather than a PC. So it's the online stuff in 2008 that appeals, with one-on-one matches and - ooh - the ability to host tournaments. Could Football Manager 2008 be the one that finally brings a decent footy management to a console? | |

| Following Microsoft's promise of a free Xbox Live game as a 'thank you' for users' loyalty, the firm has confirmed that the title will be become available this Wednesday.
Aquatic shooter Undertow, which normally sells for 800 Microsoft points, will be made available free of charge to all members worldwide.
However, Microsoft has yet to confirm whether it intends to refund points to Xbox Live members who have already purchased the game.
During the Christmas period, Xbox Live users complained of not being able to access the service, but Microsoft, which claims the problems were caused by an increase in the number of gamers joining Xbox Live, decided not to compensate users, but to 'thank' them by issuing a free game. --------------------------------------------------------

| Jacob Metcalf of 8bitjoystick.com has posted an interview with an anonymous Xbox 360 insider who claims to know the real deal about the console's failure rates. To those who might be skeptical that the source is legit, Metacalf points out that "a while back I broke the story that Bungie was leaving Microsoft and had all the details a full week before the official PR announcement." With that in mind, take the following with as much salt as you feel is appropriate. According to the source, any number of things can cause something to go wrong with the "digital backbone" of a 360's motherboard, resulting in the famous Red Ring of Death. Bad parts, timing problems, misapplied heat sinks and just plain bad parts are just a few of the culprits he names. The insider goes on to say that some games may actually accelerate the failure process. Games that consume higher bandwidth can make the 360 run hotter, which can put stress on weakened joints. The better the game, the more often it gets played, which only exacerbates the problem. Having covered why 360s fail, it's time to ask the big question: just what is that failure rate?
It's around 30%, and all will probably fail early. This quarter they are expecting 1 M failures, most of those Xenons. Some of those are repeat failures. Life expectancy is all over the map because the design has very little margin for most of the important parameters. That means it's not a fault tolerant design. So a good unit may last a couple of years, while a bad unit can fail in hours. I have a launch unit and have not had a single problem with it. And it's used a lot. But I don't know anyone else with a 360 that hasn't broken, except you now. There's no way to tell when yours might die. But the cooler you can keep it, the longer it will probably last. So stand it up, keep it in free air, etc. :Note : Xenon was the code name for the first Xbox 360 mother board.
The source, who says that he left Microsoft some time ago, explains his motivation for revealing the 360s dirty secrets thusly:
I have always been in a position to stand up for the customer. MS stopped me from doing that. They need to pay the price now. If you guys won't get together and make that happen, you have no hope for the future with them. It's not my fight, but I am here fighting. You decide what you want to do. And then do it!
| |

| HEHEHEHEHEHEHEH 360 night mare what else!!!
now I have 3 other freinds who threw away their xbox and switched to PS3..and all b/c of this stupid heating problem thingy...
I know companies love to win the market and conqur it,and forgot to truly test thoroughly. But what will they do now after people spent big $ on dvd games and consoles, do I have to buy every year a console or just rent consoles in week ends..and this is not for XBOX 360, who know what will happen to the other companies too.
If your console as a company cant handle 20 HOURS of non stop gaming then dont make one !?!?!??!
I know people who rent from blockbuster for example call OF duty and finishes it in the week end, imagine finishing games every week end, the console will fry, if it cant with stand.. I guess that happend with me, while I was playing xbox 360 need for speed carbon ...

I pay 60 $ for a game to have fun with and have it longer, not finish it the same day and throw it away....If you say online feature, well some times my connection is down and playing online sometimes is worse than the game if you dont have a team or well trained freinds like milan fan WORDDDDDDDD

| You can finish it in 6 - 8 hours and still take a few attempts at some points. When i get stuck i don't take 5 hours trying to get through it You can't help but finish it in that time. It's a naturally short game. It's not like you have the time and freedom to prance around and admire the scenary at leisure like an RPG. Unless you're thinking: "Oh, i'll play 3 hours tonight on this one level, then wait a few days and spend another 3 hours replaying the next level" | |

| The Xbox 360 hasn’t been having a good time of it lately, with poor sales, and even more dire predictions for the future of the Microsoft console. But at least Xbox owners can console themselves with the fact that their controller lasts the longest! Okay, it might not be too much to write home about, but a small, insignificant and inconsequential victory is a victory none the less. In this age of wireless controllers, and people who play for far too long on their console of choice, it’s at least worth looking at how each compares. Gamepro decided to put the three main home consoles controllers up against each other in a test to the death, and logged when each died from having their batteries run out. In last place came the Sony PS3, with its Sixaxis controller. Although it is the only one of the three which can be recharged, giving it a healthy advantage over the lifespan of the console, and saving the gamer a packet of money, it died after just 18 hours and 41 minutes. In second was the Nintendo Wii’s combination of Nunchuck and Remote. As Gamepro rightly points out, they are the most technologically advanced controllers on the market, and the sole reason for buying a Wii over a PS3 or Xbox 360. However, this didn’t help them last longer than the Xbox 360 controller, clocking in at 36 hours and 43 minutes. This was conducted using Duracell batteries, and default controller settings. Which just leaves the Xbox 360 controllers, which despite having no fancy name, and not being anything very special, won the test by a country mile. One Xbox 360 controller lasted an incredible 56 hours and 56 minutes, again using Duracell batteries. This proves absolutely nothing, except that Xbox 360 owners aren’t going to have to change the batteries in their controllers very often, but it was worth posting just to give them a much needed excuse to have a go at their PS3 and Wii owning friends.

| dunno.. but its a valid comparison.. 360's controllers last longer without having to recharge them.
you could ALWAYS improve.. i guess this is one minor detail worth sony and nintendo's time to improve.. and it wont be hard cuz they could easily do it when/if they release new upgrade controllers.

Honestly... I mean I plug in my controllers to recharge everytime I play (well sometimes ) + the other controllers use batteries so go figure.
