| Nope, there is such a view defined as 'realist'.

| Hope/Optimism isn't realist if you think about it. It's pandering to the 'what if'. Realism is firmly grounded in the here and now.
Don't know why the link is corrupted. Google it. | |

| so you're saying pessimism and realism are one of the same? as long as you're not expecting suprises, you wont be, thus, you're realistic in your view | |

| Pessimism isn't necessarily realism, but the two can be interlinked i suppose. Realism deals with cold, harsh realities and facts based on the evidence currently available. | |

| Overall I like Obama, but I think Clinton is less dangerous for us Canadians. Obama is against free trade, and this is a major issue here. | |

| This will test my ability to write in English... Free trade is the absence of tariffs and limitations to selling products in a foreign country. Canada has a "free trade" agreement with USA and Mexico that defines the rules of commerce between the three countries. This is not perfect free trade since there are still specific limitations but this is much easier now than it was, say, 25 years ago, for canadian businesses to sell their products in Us. In my opinion, this agreement, by making trade easier and cheaper, has produced significant benefits for most of the businesses and consumers of all three countries involved. However, there are people, especially in weaker economic sectors, such as the US timber industry, who have been adversely affected by free trade. These people will seek to bar competitive products to be sold in their countries by the application of tariffs and other barriers to international commerce; that approach is called protectionism. Again, in my humble opinion, protectionism might be good, and justified, for specific economic sectors, but overall is costly, especially to consumers. Because of the comparative sizes of Canadian an american economiees, It is extremely important to Canadian businesses to have the easiest possible access to the huge american market, in order to be able to sell Canadian products to the larger american customer base. Our economy depends much more on the US than the reverse. In a specific country or area, when parts of the economy are going bad, you often blame foreign competition and want to raise tariffs to prevent foreign products to compete with the domestic ones. Many politicians will try to gain votes by promising to prevent foreign products to enter the domestic market by raising tariffs. At this point, Obama is courting some voters by sayin that he might want to review the free trade agreement with Canada. And in Canada, this attitude is seen as very dangerous. Sorry for my poor english..... | |
