| Italian World Cup-winning coach Marcelo Lippi has tipped Fabio Capello to be a great success if and when he takes the England job...
With Fabio Capello now on the verge of taking the England job, former Italy boss Marcelo Lippi has praised the Football Association for their decision.
"Capello is the best possible choice for England," he told the Daily Mirror.
"It's enough to see how many trophies Capello won in his career to realise what his qualities are and what he can bring to the role.
"If the Football Association go trying to find an Italian manager then it means it is possible for an Italian to manage England, and I think you will find he is the best candidate."
However, Lippi himself was not approached for the job.
"I can't say anything if they don't call me," he shrugged.
Capello has recently met with FA representatives and is said to be announced as boss perhaps even as early as today.

| With the official unveiling of Fabio Capello as the new England manager thought to be only hours away, further insight into the Italian tactician's management style has been offered - this time by compatriot Claudio Ranieri, who has locked horns witrh Don Fabio in Serie A and who is also very familiar with Englush football from his time as Chelsea manager. Juventus manager Ranieri suggests that Capello will have no qualms about ruffling the feathers or bruising the egos of England's much-lauded but serially under-performing stars - if it benefits the team. Capello, who held "productive" talks with the Football Association on Wednesday, will always favour the system over the star syndrome, says Ranieri, who knows the former Milan, Roma, and Juventus manager's methods well, having pitted his tactical wits against him as Fiorentina's coach. The former Chelsea manager believes Capello will make England a world force at last. "He brings the quality of picking the best players to make a team," Ranieri told the Daily Mirror. "Capello picks players who play together well. It sounds easy and obvious but not everyone can do it. "He will look for pairings of strength within the team and then get them to work with other pairings. The team is more important than any individual. "And his teams work together so well and are very difficult to score against. And sooner or later, they will score against you. "He doesn't necessarily pick the best individual players. He picks the best blend. He showed that at Real Madrid." Ranieri also believes that the English public will learn to love 'Don Fabio,' and backs him to lead the Three Lions to success. "The fans will love Capello when he wins. And Fabio Capello is a winner. It is difficult to love somebody if you don't win," added Ranieri. "I think he can win the World Cup with England and make them into a team feared and respected throughout the world. "He has great experience of football all across Europe. He is one of the best." | For the love of God what is it with this Patriotic infatuation with England having an English manager?? Other than Sven they have all been English. Lets have a look at how they've all done when it comes to actually wining things shall we?
Winterbottom..........Failed
Ramsey......World Cup win!!.......failed to Qualify for 74 World Cup....sacked due to the press.
Revie......Failed
Greenwood.....Failed
Robson.......Failed
Taylor......Failed
Venables.....Failed
Hoddle.....Failed....Oh no hang on we did win that summer tournement back in 97 didn't we?
Keegan....Failed
MacClaren......Failed
Now there's a pattern here and I just can't put my finger on it?
Prior to Winterbottom we had an English Board of Selectors and how did they get on? Well we didn't bother competing in World Cups did we as we assumed we were the best in the World. We still feel we have this God given right to be so now.
You never know appointing an England manager who's actually won a league in every country he's managed in and also won the Champions League might mean we have a chance of not only getting to the latter stages of tournements more often but also that we might win actually something!!
1-0 all the way in a boring boring stylie...

| Capello is a good manager, although England's style of play will change very very much. No more attractive football lads ;D Maybe this style change is good for England, more defence and more counter attacks, England's main problem was that they were pressing all the time and then u c how someone like Arshavin bangs a goal on a counter attack. I think Capello is like a fresh air for England.
Anyway what was the point of appointing McNuggets at first ?
ahmad I don't think england will win smth, but semifinals would be good for them... on the semi's they will loose to a team like Greece on PK's ;D This is the English tradition... loosing important games like that.
Good luck DFC n' England.

| Sir Alex Ferguson backs Fabio Capello to take the strain
Sir Alex Ferguson believes Fabio Capello is ideally suited to the stresses of managing England. Capello's appointment as Steve McClaren's successor is expected to be confirmed by the Football Association imminently once his contract has been finalised. With nine league titles on his impressive CV and a coaching career encompassing spells with Juventus, AC Milan and Real Madrid, few believe Brian Barwick,, the FA chief executive, could have got anyone better. But the Manchester United boss warns Capello will soon feel the strain which comes with being England manager. "There is a tremendous pressure on the English coach, which Fabio will understand when he is two minutes into the job," Ferguson said.
"It is not going to be an easy job. There is a lot of work to do with the England team to get them to the level everyone expects, so I hope he will get the support he needs. "But what Fabio has got is experience. I have spoken for a long time about the necessity of a national team manager to be experienced and to have a good CV and a presence and be the right age. Fabio Capello has all those things. "He will definitely command the respect of the players." One of the concerns about Capello's impending appointment has been a perceived inability to speak English. Yesterday, Rafael Benitez spoke of the difficulty he had in overcoming the language barrier following his arrival at Liverpool - a problem that would only be magnified in a dressing room full of English-speaking players, a rarity now at club level. Yet Ferguson has encountered Capello at enough events to know the former Italy player has actually quite a decent command of English and can certainly communicate well enough not to have any trouble getting his point across. "Fabio's English is okay," said the Scot. "I have never had any problem speaking to him. I was reading about the problem with the language Rafael Benitez had when he came to Liverpool. "But maybe Rafa couldn't speak English, whereas Fabio can. That is a big advantage to him." Meanwhile, Raymond Domenech, the France coach, has criticised the FA for appointing another foreign manager. "The FA's decision to go with Capello as the new England manager is a very serious move, especially for English coaches," Domenech said. "I believe the fact that they went abroad to look for a manager, just as they did in the past with Eriksson, is not positive. England need a manager that has the same mentality as their players." Domenech nevertheless was full of praise for the Italian coach. "I have respect for Capello," he said. "I'm not talking in this manner because Capello is Italian; I only say this for the good of English coaches, who should feel offended by this appointment of a foreign manager."

| Capello Drops Beckham
Sky Sports News claims that David Beckham is out of the England squad to meet Switzerland in a February friendly...
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham has been told that he will not join up with the England squad to face Switzerland.
Fabio Capello, who is due to formally announce his provisional squad at 15:30 local time this afternoon, apparently had a lengthy telephone discussion with the player last night, informing him of his decision.
But during this conversation, Capello has told Beckham that this is not an international exile, but rather a temporary arrangement due to a lack of match fitness.
Should the former Manchester United man be able to regain his match fitness, then he'll surely earn a recall. That said, with time running out in Beckham's career, this could be easier said than done.
He has been training on a near-full time basis with Arsenal during Major League Soccer's close season, but this apparently is not enough.
However, with the Galaxy set to return to action in spring in an Asian tour, and then their domestic season, there could yet be time for him to return to the England setup before summer.
Beckham has 99 caps, with many speculating that he would earn a cameo appearance against the Swiss in order to reach his century.

| Like it. Gives him many options, many funny pairings possible up front, although overall quality is very dependant on Owen being healthy and in form I think Becks could still be useful here, although I kind of agree with Capello that he's not match fit at this point. GK ain't England's strong point nowadays though | |

30 men go and train with the team, from there, he cuts down the squad to 23. It allows Capello to take a further look at certain players.
